Ralph Dellor (1948 – 1 September 2017) was a respected English sports writer, cricket commentator, journalist, and coach. He began his career in 1970 on BBC local radio, and later worked on well-known shows like Grandstand, Match of the Day, and Test Match Special. In 2000, he received the Jack Fingleton Award for being cricket commentator of the year. Dellor served as the first media consultant for the ICC and was the director of cricket operations at Cricinfo from 2000 to 2003, during which he also covered the 2000 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand. Alongside his media roles, he edited the Cricketers’ Who’s Who from 1984 to 1988 and co-founded the company Sportsline Media after leaving Cricinfo.
As an ECB-accredited coach, Dellor led the Norwegian national cricket team to win the European Trophy in 2003, 2005, and 2006. He was also known as the “Voice of Lord’s,” serving as MCC’s public address announcer, and he became a well-liked after-dinner speaker in cricket circles. Over a career that spanned more than 50 years, he published several books on cricket and was deeply involved in promoting the sport both on and off the field. Ralph Dellor passed away on 1 September 2017 at age 69 after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.
