Maneet Chauhan was born on October 27, 1976, in Ludhiana, Punjab, India. She grew up in a household that valued education, even though many around her aimed to become doctors or engineers. From a young age, she was curious about cooking and spent time learning in neighbor’s kitchens, fascinated by different foods and spices. She chose to study hotel management at the top school in India, the WelcomGroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration in Manipal. After earning her degree, she interned with India’s best hotels, including the Taj Group, Oberoi Hotels, and Le Meridien. When she turned 20, she moved to the United States to continue her studies at the Culinary Institute of America in New York, where she graduated with high honors.

Career

Maneet Chauhan began her cooking career after graduating with high honors from the Culinary Institute of America. She moved first to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where she managed a new restaurant and helped it grow from 70 to 140 seats. In 2003, at age 27, she became the opening executive chef of Vermilion in Chicago, where she led a team of 40 male chefs. The restaurant earned praise, including Chicago Magazine’s Best New Restaurant, Esquire’s Restaurant of the Month, and Wine Enthusiast’s Best New Restaurant in the U.S. In 2007, she moved to New York to open Vermilion’s Manhattan location, earning a “Best Import to New York” nomination from Time Out magazine.
After eight years leading Vermilion in Chicago and New York, Maneet founded Indie Culinaire, a company for culinary events, consulting, and creative hospitality solutions. In 2014, she and her husband co-founded Morph Hospitality Group and opened their first restaurant in Nashville called Chauhan Ale & Masala House. They continued to grow the brand with Tansuo (a Chinese concept), The Mockingbird (a global diner), Chaatable (street-food style), and expanded into brewing with Mantra Artisan Ales, Steel Barrel Brewing Co., and the Hop Springs beer park.
On television, Maneet shines as a respected judge and competitor. She is a regular judge on Chopped and has appeared on shows like Iron Chef America, The Next Iron Chef, Worst Cooks in America, and Guy’s Grocery Games. She also won Tournament of Champions in both 2021 and 2024.
Maneet has also authored notable cookbooks, including Flavors of My World: A Culinary Tour Through 25 Countries and Chaat: Recipes from the Kitchens, Markets, and Railways of India. The latter earned an IACP Cookbook Award and acclaim for its focus on Indian street food.
