When he was seventeen, his father passed away, which deeply affected him and gave him the freedom to follow his love for music. He first got into rap when a bandmate introduced him to Memphis-style hip hop.

Career

Ghostemane started his career by playing in local hardcore punk and doom metal bands in Florida. Even though he was deeply involved in these heavy music scenes, he began to move toward rap, bringing the dark and heavy sound with him. In 2015, he moved to Los Angeles where he began working under the name Ill Bizz. There, he became part of the hip hop collective Schemaposse, which also included artists like Lil Peep. This helped him get attention in the underground rap scene. After the group ended in early 2016, Ghostemane began focusing fully on his solo work and released his album Blackmage, along with the music video for the song "John Dee."

In 2017, Ghostemane gained wider attention when he teamed up with rapper Pouya on the track "1000 Rounds." The song’s video quickly went viral on YouTube, bringing in millions of views and helping him gain a bigger fan base. Later that year, he saw even greater success when his song "Mercury: Retrograde" was paired with a 1930s cartoon and uploaded online. The video exploded in popularity and became his most well known release, with more than half a billion views.

Building on this momentum, Ghostemane released his seventh studio album, N/O/I/S/E, in 2018. The project stood out because it mixed rap with industrial, metal, and nu metal influences, creating a unique sound that drew attention in the underground music world.
