Biography
Amanda Lindsay Overmyer was born on October 26, 1984, in Camden, Indiana. She grew up in the small community and attended Delphi Community High School. Before gaining fame as a singer, Amanda built a career in healthcare. She earned a nursing degree from Ivy Tech Community College and worked in respiratory care, helping patients with breathing problems. Her life took a turn in 2008 when she became a contestant on the seventh season of American Idol. Known for her rocker style, biker image, and raspy voice that drew comparisons to Janis Joplin, Amanda quickly stood out among the competitors. She advanced to the Top 12 and eventually finished in 11th place. During and after the show, she appeared on several television programs, including The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Live with Regis and Kelly, and The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet.
After American Idol, Amanda continued her music career. On May 24, 2008, she headlined the Women of Rockshow at the Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywood, where she performed four of her original songs. Later that year, on December 10, 2008, she released her debut album titled Solidify. The album’s lead single, “Play On,” was a personal dedication to her husband. In the summer of 2009, she performed in a large concert near Lafayette, Indiana, attracting an estimated 14,000 fans along with her band. Over the following years, Amanda and her band mostly toured throughout the Midwest, performing for local audiences. In November 2013, she shared that she was working on new music and planning additional live performances. Despite stepping away from the national spotlight, Amanda maintained a loyal fan base and stayed active in the regional music scene.
